David Prather

David Prather has written and performed a number of original works for a variety of arts institutions. This includes portraying the composers Charles Ives, Dimitri Shostakovich, W.S. Gilbert, and Berlioz for the San Francisco and Pacific Symphonies; original shows for the Getty Museum including one as Chaucer; and a commissioned play for the Alley Theatre, When Harlem Was in Vogue.

Prather's original assembly programs presented by the Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, College of the Canyons, and other art entities include The Bully Dudes, John and Juan (presented annually at La Cosecha bi-lingual conference in New Mexico), Poetry Jam, and others. As host, Prather has appeared for many years at the helm of Summer Sounds at the Hollywood Bowl and leader of the Holiday sing-along at Disney Hall, as well as the annual Very Special Arts Festival. He has been a master teaching artist for the Music Center for several decades, using theatre techniques to integrate English and Social Science curriculum, and leading numerous professional developments and institutes.
