Jessica M. Choi
Soprano
Korean-American soprano Jessica M. Choi is excited to be singing stateside again after an extended residence in the United Kingdom. Choi made her debut with the Los Angeles Opera as the Matchmaker in On Gold Mountain, and returns as a community artist this season after previously singing Turandot in The Legend of Cannery Row and Alice, Amelia, and Violetta in Verdi Tales with the company. Her previous roles include Cio Cio San in Madama Butterfly, Mimì in La Bohème, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, La Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus. An accomplished recitalist, she has been featured at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Britten Theatre, St. Stephen’s Church, and the South Korean Embassy of London. She has also performed as the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Requiem and Krönungsmesse, and Haydn’s Die Schöpfung. This spring, she will be returning to tour with LA Opera.
Choi has been recognized both domestically and internationally for her artistry by the Orpheus Vocal Competition, the Eugene Opera Pacific Northwest Sings Competition, and the Rio Hondo Symphony Competition. She is an Oxenfoord International Scholar and a Lotte Johnson Vocal Scholar. She has participated in masterclasses with such luminaries as Dame Felicity Palmer, Malcolm Martineau, and Dame Ann Murray. She received her Master of Performance and Postgraduate degree from the Royal College of Music in London and her Bachelor of Music from California State University, Fullerton. www.jessicamchoi.com @jessicamchoi
