Yang Liu
Yang Liu (erhu, gaohu) was born in the Hunan Province in 1973. He started learning the Erhu from his father and realized his exceptional talent at the tender age of 7. At age 9, Liu entered the first annual National Children’s Traditional Instrument Solo Competition and was award a silver medal. In the early 1990’s, he was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music and studied the Erhu under famous educator Chang Fu Liu. In 1995, he received special award at the Foritone Global Chinese Traditional Instrument Professional Erhu Competition. In 1999, he received first prize at the National Tian Hua Cup Erhu Competition.
Liu was a member of several famous orchestras: China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra, China National Traditional Orchestra, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and Suzhou Chinese Orchestra. In succeeding years, many of Liu’s students have been admitted to the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music and became successful performers and educators.
