The Beatles’ Legacy Meets Classical Excellence
Pacific Symphony’s July 4 Spectacular Presented by City of Hope Orange County
Prepare for an extraordinary feast for the senses under the stars at Pacific Symphony’s SummerFest, presented by City of Hope Orange County. FivePoint Amphitheatre in Irvine, a scenic gem in the heart of Orange County, sets the stage for an unparalleled outdoor concert experience. Discover the pleasure of relishing a sumptuous charcuterie spread and sipping wine as you bask in the symphony’s musical brilliance, all while enjoying the convenience of gourmet food trucks offering an enticing variety of culinary delights for your pre-concert picnic.
From patriotic tunes to iconic movie melodies and classical favorites that make your heart soar, SummerFest is your soundtrack for the perfect summer. Series offerings this season include the opening concert A Tribute to The Beatles (July 4) followed by Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the Lost Ark™ Live in Concert (Aug. 13) and our traditional Tchaikovsky Spectacular (Sept. 9).
President John Forsyte said, “The Symphony continues its long-standing tradition of great summer concerts, music education, community engagement, and family programming because of the wonderful support and sponsorships of such generous donors, who make it possible, such as City of Hope Orange County, which is also the Corporate Sponsor for Symphony in the Cities 2023, our three free concerts in Mission Viejo, Irvine, and Orange.”
“City of Hope Orange County is pleased to present Pacific Symphony’s SummerFest concert series,” said Edward S. Kim, M.D., M.B.A., Physician-in-Chief, City of Hope Orange County, Orange County’s most advanced cancer care. “We look forward to celebrating July 4 with the community.”
This July 4th, celebrate Independence Day at Irvine’s FivePoint Amphitheatre as Principal Pops Conductor Laureate Richard Kaufman leads Pacific Symphony through the long and winding road of the Beatles’ discography. Rock along to the Fab Four’s vibrant classics, featuring timeless favorites such as “Here Comes the Sun,” “All You Need is Love,” and many more.
Long-regarded as one of popular music’s premier trailblazers, the quintessential verve and infectious tunes of The Beatles have long held the hearts—and ears—of America. With the critically acclaimed Classical Mystery Tour bringing in decades of Beatles experience to the Symphony’s July 4th merriment, this event marks the height of summer fun, adding spark and vigor to an evening of musical patriotism.
The Classical Mystery Tour, which has been praised by Broadway World as “the world’s best Beatles show with a symphony orchestra,” features members Jim Owen (rhythm guitar, piano, and vocals), Tony Kishman (bass guitar, piano, and vocals), Tom Teeley (lead guitar and vocals), and Chris Camilleri (drums and vocals). With 22 years of touring and 100 orchestral partnerships under their belt, concertgoers can come together to enjoy the band’s lively music, strumming in tandem with the Symphony’s reverberant orchestral counterpoint.
The concert opens with a wide variety of musical Americana. Richard Kaufman leads the orchestra in lively marches, popular traditional pieces, John Williams’s new work Of Grit and Glory written for ESPN’s College Football Playoff National Championship earlier this year, and movie music, including the iconic “Born to Be Wild” from the cult classic film Easy Rider.
The program concludes with a special “Salute to the Armed Forces” with an opportunity for the audience to sing-along on “America the Beautiful.” Of course, no Fourth of July would be complete without fireworks, and for tonight’s grand finale there will be a spectacular display to light up the sky while the orchestra plays rousing Sousa marches. Pacific Symphony acknowledges Judy and Wes Whitmore for generously sponsoring tonight’s concert. Media sponsors include PBS SoCal, K-Earth 101, and LAist.
