Welcome to the Marvelous Month of May!
With great excitement we welcome you to Pacific Symphony’s offerings this month, featuring a diverse and exciting lineup of performances that will leave you feeling inspired and enriched. We are thrilled to showcase our talented youth ensembles during May, each presenting a unique and unforgettable musical experience.
Pacific Symphony Santiago Strings, conducted by Dr. Johanna Gamboa-Kroesen, will present “The Sun Never Sets: Empires, Diasporas, and the Power of Music” (May 2). This performance explores the rich history of music and its impact on various cultures, drawing from a wide range of styles and influences to create a truly unforgettable listening experience.
Our newest youth ensemble, Pacific Symphony Youth Concert Band, conducted by Angela Woo, takes the stage with “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” (May 3). This exciting performance takes listeners on a journey through a variety of musical genres and styles, showcasing the incredible talent and skill of our young musicians.
Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Jake Sustaita, presents “Love & Loss” (May 15) featuring selections from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet. This powerful performance explores the depths of human emotion, delving into the themes of love, loss, and the power of music to heal and uplift the spirit.
Pacific Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble, led by Dr. Gregory X. Whitmore and guest conductor Col Jason Fettig of the United States Marine Band, takes the stage with “Of Life Experience” (May 16). This exciting performance celebrates the joys and challenges of life, draing from a variety of musical styles and influences to create a truly unforgettable experience.
But that’s not all—our May lineup also features a variety of other exciting performances, including “Music of The Rolling Stones,” a celebration of nearly 60 years of Stones’ hits covered by Windborne Music and Mick Adams (May 5-6); “Gershwin’s Rhapsody,” a three-part celebration starting with the music that defined the Roaring Twenties, hosted by KUSC personality Alan Chapman (May 11-13); and a Sunday Matinee featuring “Rhapsody in Blue” (May 14), a special performance of Gershwin’s iconic masterpiece.
